Peanut Butter Sandwiches & Chinese Cabbage
Attention: If you currently think you are even the least bit hungry, don't read this post.
It was food and only food on the minds of all the second-year students at Middlebury this past week.
If you want to know how to make Chinese cabbage, stir-fried beef, or even a peanut butter sandwich, I'm your gal.
That's of course if you want the recipe recited in Chinese.
花生酱三明治 (Peanut Butter Sandwich)
1)你先把花生酱打开。用刀子吧花生酱抹在一片面包上。
2)然后,吧果酱打开。用刀子吧果酱抹在另外一片上。
3)然后,吧一片面包放在另外一片上。
4)做好了!
...you get the idea...If you know Chinese and can read the above, it is actually quite humorous. What seems like an elementary skill takes me about 5-10 minutes to explain.
But I'm making progress.
And getting hungrier by the second.
After discussing food in class, I went to cooking class and made 西红柿炒鸡蛋 (Tomatoes stir-fried with eggs). Apparently, a Chinese favorite. But the real treat will be making 饺子(Dumplings) next week!
Hungry yet?
Ok, I'll move on.
As for the other aspects of my life at Middlebury...well, basically I just go to classes and study. But I do continue to learn a lot and, every once in a while, enjoy the beautiful town of Middlebury. The interaction looks a bit different though.
I went to purchase a pastry this past week, but it proved rather difficult. I couldn't even create a full, comprehensive sentence in English. Yikes! Although, I'd say that's good for my Chinese.
And that's pretty much it, folks.
If you need to contact me, I'll be making lots of peanut butter sandwiches.
(No pictures of the food, so this amazing picture of a rainbow from the other night will have to do.)
